Can having long hair give you a headache?

I'm 15 and always have a headache, i usually take 2 advils a day, but they dont work for me anymore, i was wondering if my hair, which is about down to the middle of my back, and its really thick, could be the thing giving me the headaches, if so, do you think i should cut it shorter, i LOVE my long hair, and i dont want to cut it if this is the reason, what are some other ways to get rid of heacaches without taking medicine?

Yeah

My mom was like that when she was young and now that she's growing her hair out again, the hair is heavy and gives her headaches

If you like long hair, maybe get it thinned at the ends and layered so it'll be lighter and not stress your neck out as much while still being long

It is a possibility. Your hair can pull your head down, causing tension in your neck and shoulders. Then the muscles become swollen and stiff. When that happens, it presses on the carotids and causes decreased blood flow to the brain. I recommend using tiger balm. Rub it into your sore muscles. It smells bad, but it will increase the blood flow to your brain, aleviating the headache. When I have one, I also take a shower. I have really good water pressure and the warm water and the rotating shower head loosens up the tension. More expensive ideas are: physical therapy and chiropractor. Both of which I have found useful and actually enjoyed. Also watch your posture. Sit appropriately, wear appropriate footwear, and watch how you hold your body.

If you frequently pull your long hair back into a ponytail, that can cause headaches, too, especially if it's pulled too tight.

I found that if I wear a low braid in the back I get horrible headaches, but a low ponytail is fine. It may be that your securing it too tightly in a band.

Your hair is definitely causing your headaches. Consider layering it. You should go to a hairstylist and tell them your problem; they can suggest what to do. I knew a girl that had this problem and they would use what are called "thinning shears" on her hair so she could keep it long. You could ask your hairdresser about these.

Changing your posture won't help anything.
