If what you are doing does'nt work phone a hairdresser and ask them if they are able to do perms/afros keep phoning different hairdressers until you find one that can do it for you and make an appointment. :)

If your hair is just 'very curly' then you aren't gonna get your desired results with just a pick. The kind of 'fro' you get depends on your hair's texture. If you do not have extremely tight, kinky curls, then picking will do nothing.

Try brushing it once it's completely dry and maybe a little teasing all over (with a fine tooth metal comb) just at the roots to make it stand up. If you tease the entire hair shaft its gonna look like a convenient place for a bird to live.

Your hair curl pattern must be tighter. Afro are very tight curls. You must "pic" your hair everyday any way to comb your fro.
