I use to have really long hair, but now its damaged due to constant bleach and I have to cut off all the damage now. I don't want short hair though, because its just not my thing. So I want hair extensions! GOOD ONES! I've never had them so I need some advice that (if you've ever worn extensions) you wish you knew before you got them. thank you ^.^
I miss my long hair. Are extensions the solution?
If you have damage already and you want your hair to grow out, you wouldn't want the glued-in extensions that will damage your hair. The heat sealing method they use to bond the extensions to your hair are know to cause damage. And those extensions only last about 4 months (at best).
You should look into clip in hair extensions. They are least likely to damage your hair and they can even protect your hair from damage.
I like the Jessica Simpson Hairdo brand. They come in both synthetic and human hair.
Synthetic extensions last about 3months and are less expensive (varies depending on the length you want).
Human hair clip in extensions by Hairdo last a year or longer. They cost about $450. They are the top of the line. They come in 21" long and can be cut to whatever length you want. They can be dyed, permed, styled with hot irons just as you can with your real hair.
Here's a good website with a lot more info and how-to videos: http://clipinhairextensions.weebly.com/

Well I got hair Extensions but if you get the glue in hair extensions that lasts for about 1 month and if you get the sew in it last longer its cool though so if I were you I'd get the Sew in. but honestly if your hair is damaged you can also buy frizz buster it gets rid of damaged hair it makes my hair look beautiful but if you reall ywant extensions go with the sew in ok hope I helped =) good luck!
I miss my long hair. Are extensions the solution?
Ok
1) They will itch, pull, feel tight, and even hurt for days and sometimes weeks. They have to be put in very securely, obviously, and pain is beauty. (fusion extensions do not hurt at all, but are more pricey and take a long time to have put in)
2) They are NOT cheap, by any means. And you want to make sure you get them done by someone who REALLY knows what they're doing. You don't want your hair to a) look fake or b) fall out
3) You need to look at hair care very differently. Depending on what type of hair you get put in (human, natural, synthetic or synthetic that is "like" natural) and how they are put in (sewn in, braided in, "glued" in, fusion) you will need to care for them very well. Your stylist will be able to tell you the best way to care for them, and MAKE SURE you do things how they tell you to, or your extensions will fall out, look bad, or just become damaged and look terrible.
4) Make sure the hair they're using matches your hair, or you'll look crazy.
5) Have fun with them! I've had everything from natural colors, to black/white/red to black/turquoise to pink/purple/black and everything in between.
GOOD LUCK!

GET THE EXTENSIONS. IT'S EASY AND PAINLESS. I DON'T KNOW WHERE EVERYONE ELSE WENT BUT I DO MY OWN, AND IT'S PAINLESS. THE ONLY THING IS THAT YOU HAVE TO MAINTAIN THEM. IF YOU GET THE ONES THAT GET SEW IN, THEN YOU CAN WASH YOUR HAIR REGULARLY. IF YOU GET THE GLUED IN ONES, YOU'LL HAVE TO REPLACE THEM ABOUT EVERY 2 TO 3 WEEKS DEPENDING ON HOW YOU MAINTAIN THEM. I USE THE GLUE BECAUSE IT'S EASIER FOR ME AND LESS TIME CONSUMING GETTING DONE. I SAY YOU GET THEM. U KNOW HOW MUCH YOU CAN DO WITH A WEAVE...GET IT!!

Many people ask what a hair extension consists of. Most hair extensions are made of fine strands of nylon which are melted around your natural hair.
Extensions are available in just about any color, texture or length. A lot of women of color will add hair extensions to provide the full braided look that is popular. The popular TV star Brandi often wears extensions as well.
The hair extension is placed on the parting of a small tress of hair and the hair criss-crossed over the extension. The real hair and the hair extension are then tightly plaited or braided together and painted with a bonding solutions. A heated clamp melts the solution sealing the extension around the hair. This is known as "heat sealing".
Hair extensions must be attached by a professional hairdresser or hair expert. It is very difficult and risky to attempt to add hair extensions on your own. Not only will the attachments be hard to handle, you may wind up with an uneven overall length or possibly damage your hair unnecessarily. Most extensions, if applied properly, will last up to four months. After this the special glue-like bond attached to your natural hair will begin to loosen and fall off. Many people will only keep their hair extensions for a short period of time for a special event or occasion. How long extensions are kept is a personal decision.

I agree with everything the girl before me (mandi) wrote.
I just took out my glued-in extensions, which I had for over 6 months. I put them in because I set my hair on fire once (horrible experience) and it just would not regrow.. I went through a period where I would cut it, colour it, condition it etc but nothing made it look good again. So I got the glue in extensions. I had them done in Italy and the lady did an excellent job in chosing the colour and texture of the hair (we used natural human hair). I put them in in January of this year and I took'em out in July - 6 months. I can go back to her salon now and give the hair back to her, so she sends it to the "producer;" the hair will then be "refreshed" and sent back to the salon, where I can put it the SAME hair extensions again. I paid once (about $800 *gulp*) but it made me look like a mix between gorgeous mermaid and a forest nymph ;)) I won't have to pay anymore for refreshing the hair and putting it in again and I can do it two more times with the same hair.
The bad part - after a while, during the time when I had the extensions, my own hair would become almost like dreadlocks. It was partly because I had curly hair, and partly because you can't really brush through the little knot where the glue is. But once I took out the extensions, I used a bottle of conditioner and got all the knots out fine. My hair looks much healthier and I am completely satisfied :)
But, I would also recomend that you consider the Jessica Simpson way of doing it. It looks promissing and easy :)
Good luck!!

Yeah, if you do get extensions make sure they are good ones! one can tell right away when they aren't put in right or the color just doesn't match up. I had to cut my damaged hair about 2 or 3 inches every 6 weeks I was almost over processed. but I didn't wear extensions, I just enjoyed it, anyway I figured... I got myself to the point of almost over processing my hair, I thought "I want to lay low for a while," you know stay all natural. It has paid off for me, after 2 years, no dyes, or bleach, but yes to conditioning every time I wash it! just healthy hair that has my stylist ask me how do I keep my hair so soft and healthy.
