I have tried to grow it out in the past, but every time I do, it builds up on the top of my head more than it goes down, you know? It's not like an afro cause I have straight hair - my hair just kinda gets more poofy than long.

as soon as ur hair grows a little start tieing them up.and use regular masks and conditioners to keep the hair healthy and soft.dont get it trimmed very often just ask ur stylist to get rid of split ends,u can do it urself also.be careful u dont cut the hair a lot.trimming hair has nothing to do wid hair growth.it just makes hair healthy by gettin rid of split ends

cut your hair trim at the full moon and have it thinned along the way. maybe if too bushy try straightener. each full moon trim slightly. ive seen it work
