Is this normal for growing long hair?

I am a guy and have never had long hair before. My scalp has started itching on the back of my head where my hair is. Is this normal? Like I said my hair has never been long before and I just wondered if my scalp is adjusting to the length and that is why it is itching. Information is appreciated.

If you have never had long hair before you may not be washing your hair as often as you should. Biggest cause of itchy scalp is not washing your hair enough. you may even have to wash it every day. You could also try an anti dandruff shampoo, even if you cant see any dandruff it can still help with the itching.

Itching is usually a sign your hair needed to be washed yesterday!

Also re: going straight, the weight of the hair is simply pulling your hair out of the curls. perfectly normal.

my boyfriend has the same problem. his head itches when he grows his hair out long. honestly i'm not sure y, could be that ur washing it too much or maybe you have dandruff. try using a shampoo like head and shoulders to see if it helps. also, guys typically aren't used to brushing their hair so try brushing ur hair and see if it helps.

if you just had a slight curl when ur hair was shorter, then yes it's normal for it to be straight now. your hair is heavier and longer, so it's harder to maintain that slight curl.

I'm a stylist and not everyone who grows long hair gets the itching. Not a proven fact either way. Some people complain when letting it grow their neck itches. I have had that myself when going from short hair to long hair. So you will most likely get used to it.
