How do I keep my maltese hair long and shiny?

her hair is not growing fast, and I want her to have long hair.

Her hair is also fine.

It takes a long time for her hair to grow, but you can help it along by washing her each two weeks, and using a good conditioner. Brush her daily, but use a gentle pin brush with the rounded tips, and always dampen her hair before brushing..You can spritz each section as you brush, or keep a damp sponge and dampen each section...Never brush dry hair, as it breaks it and makes it shorter..

Remember, clean hair will brush easier than dirty hair, and break far less.

Fed her a high quality premium food. NOTHING at the grocer's or department store is worth feeding..None of them will nurish her coat properly..

this is a great site! "Grooming Your Maltese" %26gt; http://www.bhejei.com/groom-open.htm

good luck as a dog groomer i recomend you keep it shorter because its going to matt up unless you comb not brush but comb this dog constantly like once a day atleat maybe twice a day. and give it a bath once a month and a small trim once a month (professional trim from a groomer) just around its eyes, butt and feet for sanitary reasons. Your groomer can give you more suggestions. Everyone starts off with long hair and eventually go short because its alot of matinence

Brush, brush, brush with a wire brush. And you could get a spray/leave on conditioner from the pet store.

wash it weekly and brush it daily.

Try a hair and Coat Supplement. I have been giving my golden retrievers and my dalmation Natur Vet's Ultimate Skin and Coat Supplement (with omega fatty acids) and by golly - it's worked! One of my Goldens' fur (she used to have bald patches and lacked an undercoat) is plusher and longer and all the bald patches have filled out while my dalmation now has a velvet sheen. Apparently, the trick is in the fatty acids - ask any vet - and no, I am not from Natur Vet promoting its product in case you're thinking. I'm from Malaysia, a country thousandsof miles away from the company. I also give them Natur Vet's Enzymes for better digestion.

I have been feeding them the supplement for about 1 month now. You'll see results too I'm sure. My other Golden retriever has not responded as well though but then she has always had a resplendent thick coat so I can't really expect improvements on that. But her hair is beginning to grow out from under her belly.

I have tried other supplements before but only this has shown results. A cheaper alternative would be feeding eggs and oil but I can't tell for sure if that will work.
