Do all Maltese breeds' hair grow long down to the ground?

I've seen some pictures of maltese dogs, some have excessively long hair, which touches the ground and others have shorter hair.

As far as I know, yes, all Maltese breeds' hair grow long. The short haired pictures that you've seen are probably dogs whose owners don't like the long look. I personally like a Maltese with short-cut hair myself, plus it's easier to groom.

Besides, isn't it a rule that Maltese must have long hair in order to compete in dog shows?

Yes if its a full blooded Maltese. If its a problem give it a hair cut at like petsmart

Yes, if a maltese' coat is well looked after with regular grooming it will be glorious and down to the ground. Most people can't be bothered looking after their dog's coats so they cut them short.

Do all Maltese breeds' hair grow long down to the ground?

Yes. Malteses are a regular in the grooming department. Some people cut their fur short, or others prefer them with longer fur and their hair tied up in bows. That is the standard look for a maltese according to the dog show handbook. Its A LOT easier to take care of if you keep your malteses hair short because it doesnt require a lot of brushing and shampooing and grooming a couple times a week. Some people have the time to groom their dog for hours but some dont. Malteses hair will always grow throughout their life so its good to take them to the groomers every month or so.

Go READ THE BREED STANDARD!!!

There are Show/breeding quality dogs(EVERY breed!) %26amp; those that are PET-STUFF!!! Show quality are OBVIOUSLY Better *%26amp;* are GROOMED correctly-DAILY-to help w/correct coat growth %26amp; PREVENT any breakage!

**REALLY** crappy specimans never WILL grow correct coats,no matter what you do.Any tendancy to curl is MAJOR FAULT!!!
