How should i cut my hair to make it grow long?

K im a guy obviously and ive wanted to grow my hair out long for quite some time. but every time it gets to the base of my neck it gets curly and looks messed up. so i get frustrated and buzz my head. my friend has long hair and has told me to just shave the sides and back of my head and just leave the top as is but im worried it will look funky till it grows long. my question is would it be effective to do as my friend advised or is there a more effective way of growing it?

Maybe you should try your friends method first before looking elsewhere. If you still don't like it his way after a few weeks then cut it to even it out. Other than that you could try lightly trimming it every few months to get rid of scraggly ends. I'm not sure if it will grow as you plan it to, but hopefully it works out in the end. Good luck on your hair.

if it gets curly, then that means your hair is curly and there is nothing you can do about it unless you straighten it with a hair iron or chemichally straighten it.

put it in braids.

try having the ends clipped at least once a month, you may have split ends

~i agree with your friend, my friends all wear baseball hats but when they grew their hair long they would just do the back and sides and get it trimmed regularily (we're native canadians)!~

Keep letting the top grow and keep cutting at your neck line until your hair gets longer, other wise you'll have a mullet!!

you have curly hair. i have really curly hair. a lot of people have curly hair! i would say try growing it long. that is a big style now. and looks very cute on most guy's. some guy's well..... it's doesn't look so cute. grow it out see how you like it. there are a lot of products out there for people with curly hair. try some. don't be afraid of your curl. inbrace it!
